In the T20 Blast Finals Day, Surrey is fueled by a death bowling masterclass
Surrey vs Lancashire
At Old Trafford in Manchester on Friday, July 7, Surrey defeated Lancashire by 13 runs thanks in large part to the death bowling of captain Chris Jordan and Sam Curran. With 54 needed off of 30 balls and seven wickets still in the bag, the Lancs were the favourites to complete the chase. Jordan and Curran, though, combined to restrict the hosts with a lethal combination of blistering yorkers and slower balls, allowing just 35 runs to be scored off the following 24 deliveries. When it came down to 19 off the last over, Sean Abbott played well, giving Surrey an easy victory.
Earlier in the day, Surrey was helped to a respectable total by fifty-plus scores from Laurie Evans and Jason Roy, albeit the visitors did lose some momentum in the slog overs. At the very end, Tom Bailey and Daryl Mitchell played superbly to prevent Surrey from surpassing the 200-run threshold, which had earlier appeared to be a formality. The Lancs were propelled forward at the beginning of the chase by Jos Buttler and Steven Croft, but after their relationship was shattered, Surrey were able to reenter the match and choke their way past Lancashire.
Brief scores: Surrey 187/5 in 20 overs (Laurie Evans 70, Jason Roy 50; Tom Bailey 2-37) beat Lancashire 174/6 in 20 overs (Steven Croft 55, Jos Buttler 42; Chris Jordan 2-28) by 13 runs
