The Rising Star: A Closer Look at the Young Guns Ready to Shine in IPL 2023
On Tuesday, Yashasvi Jaiswal of the Rajasthan Royals earned the IPL 2023 Emerging Player of the Season Award. The 21-year-old finished as the season’s fifth-highest run scorer with 625 runs in 14 matches during a historic tournament.
Indian cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal competes for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League and Mumbai in domestic competition. Jaiswal, who came from a very low place, battled his way to the top by talent and tenacity alone. Born on December 28, 2001, in Suriyawan, Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, his love of cricket led him to live in tents for over three years in Mumbai. He used to perform menial jobs to make ends meet and wander from pitch to pitch looking for cricket matches. His cricketing ability was recognised by a Jwala Singh-run cricket academy in Mumbai, where his professional route was established. He originally entered the league in 2015 after recording 319 not out and taking 13/99 in a Giles Shield match. He was chosen for the Mumbai U-16 team in 2016. He attracted notice in 2019 for scoring 203 off 154 balls for Mumbai against Jharkhand, becoming the youngest player to do so in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match. Prior to the 2020 U-19 World Cup, he was selected for the India Under-19 team after a pair of outstanding domestic performances. His selection for the Indian team turned out to be a turning point in his career. Jaiswal participated in a star-studded Under-19 World Cup in 2020, winning the title of tournament’s best player. In the competition, he ran up more than 400 runs. Another find appears to be a left-handed batter who can now occasionally bowl leg-spin in addition to batting left-handed. Appears to be yet another IPL discovery. He was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs. 2.4 crore during the 2020 IPL auction. In season one, he observed that game time was constrained. But he was upgraded to an opener a season later. He was kept by Rajasthan for the IPL 2022.
